Maniwaya Island
Visiting Marinduque shall include your IT of island hopping. Surrounded by bodies of water, the province is blessed with number of islands with powdery and white sand beaches and clear blue water. One of these, is Maniwaya Island. Located in town of Santa Cruz, you reach it through 30-45 minutes boat ride from Buyaod Port. Actually, there are 2 other islands namely Polo, Mongpong but Maniwaya has the best to offer for beach experience.
From our barangay, we rented a banca with 6 person capacity. It took 30 minutes to reach the island.
The island has fine and yellowish sand but is not as wide as other famous beaches in the country. The beach stretched up to 2 kilometers.
Usual scene at the shore of the island. Lush vegetation which provide a shaded place to stay during noon when scorching heat of the sun prevails.
There are available resorts that offer accommodation for overnight. Also cottages are for rent for those day trippers. Since I have my tent and tarp, we don't. need to pay for rooms at all. For backpackers, the shore of the island is good for pitching tent. Best pitch the tent under the shade of the tree. Anyways, thanks to Manang who let us enter their property where we pitched our tent and let us used their personal facility.
Water sports activity were also available in the island as kayak, jetski, banana boat and speed boat ride.
